CS 175: Topics in Geometric Modeling

This course covers both classical and state-of-the-art approaches to geometric modeling as needed in computer-aided geometric design and graphics. Starting with unorganized three-dimensional point clouds, we will treat the whole pipeline of surface reconstruction. Topics include processing of point clouds (decimation, smoothing, rendering, triangulation), triangle meshes (irregular and regular meshes, decimation, smoothing, subdivision, parameterization) and spline surfaces (fundamentals, interpolation, approximation). Both the underlying mathematical theory and its implementation in the form of highly efficient algorithms will be taught.

9 units (3-3-3); third term.
